Classic or slim: which model is this skin for?

What the two Minecraft arm models mean, and how to tell which one a skin was drawn for.

Two arm widths

Minecraft has two player models. Classic (Steve) has 4-pixel-wide arms. Slim (Alex) has 3-pixel-wide arms. Both use the same 64×64 texture, but the arm region is one pixel narrower on slim.

Why it matters

Put a classic skin on the slim model and the game drops the outermost column of each arm — sleeves lose their edge. The other way round, a slim skin on the classic model leaves a one-pixel transparent stripe down each arm, which the game renders as a visible seam.

How to tell

Every skin page on this site lists the model it was drawn for under Model, and you can filter any list by it. Most skins work acceptably on either model; faces and torsos are identical, only the arms differ.
